Program Director
KHITS' Program Director Mike Watermann has 20 years on-air experience
in St. Louis radio. Perfectly suited for a radio station that plays the
"Greatest Hits of the `70's", Mike was the mid-day DJ at the Contemporary
Music station of the late `70's in St. Louis - KSLQ. He was also involved
in programming KSD-FM for 13 years, signing on in 1980 for the Adult Contemporary
format through its evolution to Classic Rock in 1987.
Mike helped to develop St. Louis' unique version of `70's Pop/Rock and kicked
off the format on KHITS in March of 1994. In his spare time, he is the drummer
for St. Louis' most popular Oldies band - Sh-Boom. Weekend band gigs keep
him busy, but he also enjoys making time for his sons' soccer games. Fifteen-year-old
Brandon plays club soccer for the Midwest Regional Champion Scott-Gallagher
team, and was selected as the only Freshman to play varsity soccer at Duchesne
High School in St. Charles. Nine-year-old Blaine attends Ste. Joachim &
Ann School and plays soccer for his school team. Nineteen-year-old Jason
is a Sophomore at the University of Missouri-Columbia and a member of the
Sigma Tau Epsilon Fraternity.
Chatting with listeners about the music of the `70's is what Mike considers
to be the key benefit of being the Program Director at KHITS. "People
will call frequently to find out who the artist was on a particular song,"
Mike says, "or just to settle an inter-office dispute over a song and
I'm happy to be a font of trivial information for them!"
