Love Songs and Murder Ballads: The 4th Annual Folk School Concert Love Songs and Murder Ballads will feature performances by five outstanding groups representing several roots music traditions, including: Kim and Jim Lansford, Kevin Buckley & Eileen Gannon, Swing Deville, The Buckhannon Brothers, Jim Nelson, Marc Rennard, and Jeff Miller and Tom Hall & Charlie Pfeffer. National Women’s Healthy Heart Day Health Fair During this two-day event, experienced hospital staff will conduct vital heart health screenings and provide counseling to each attendee if recommended. The screenings yield invaluable information on the risks an individual may need to address specific to heart disease (including cholesterol, triglycerides, blood pressure and blood glucose levels, and body mass index). Each woman will receive the results on-site, have an understanding of her risks, and leave with strategies to reduce her risk for heart disease. All mothers, sisters, daughters, co-workers and friends (over 21 please) are encouraged to attend the Women’s Healthy Heart Day and learn about the impact of heart disease on women. Festival of African & African-American Music: Four Day Festival The African Musical Arts, in collaboration with the International Consortium for Music of Africa & its Diaspora will features internationally acclaimed performers including sopranos Marie Robinson, Dawn Padmore, pianists Darryl Hollister, William-Chapman Nyaho, Silvia Belfiore, oboist Althea Ifeka, flutist Wendy Hymes, violinist Rachel Barton Pine, harpist Rashida Black and conductor Marlon Daniel conducting the New Horizons Orchestra. Local artists will also be participating including Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra musicians, the St. Louis Children’s Choir, Hazelwood West High School Orchestra, as well as participating student musicians from McCluer High School and Mehlville High School. The Sketchbook Project The Sketchbook Project is coming to Soulard Art Market: The Sketchbook Project is like a concert tour, but with sketchbooks, and will be on display at the Soulard ART Market on March 11, 2009. Artists of all levels and ages are encouraged to particpate. Art-House sends you a sketchbook, you make the art. Then Art House is taking all the sketchbooks on a 6-city tour to galleries and museums across the U.S. The goal of the exhibition is to encourage anyone to create artwork and build a collective of sketchbooks made by artists from all over the world. Art House in Atlanta Georgia is bringing artists together and giving everyone a chance to show in museums and galleries around the country. It's all about community.
