RANDOM RICK-NESS
This sounds like the intro to a classic joke…but it really happened;
A guy walks into a bar dressed in a red suit with a white beard carrying a sack…and a gun, which he points at the bartender who runs and hides, then takes out his cell phone to call 9-1-1.
Can you imagine the conversation?
Dispatch: can you describe the robber?
Bartender: well he was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot, and his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
Dispatch: Any distinguishing facial features?
Bartender: well, he had a broad face…and a little round belly that shook when he laughed like a bowl full of jelly.
You get the point…true story, except for the ‘imagined’ 9-1-1 call, the bandit wearing the Santa suit held up the East Providence Yacht Club Barr on Sunday. No arrests have been made.
MORNING MUSINGS
Morning Show Musings for Tuesday, December 21st
Happy 62nd birthday to Samuel L. Jackson. Rick thinks Jackson has been in every movie ever made, and he does has a pretty long list of credits: the "Star Wars" prequels, "Iron Man 2," "Soul Man," "Cleaner," "Resurrecting the Champ," "Freedomland," "The Man," "Coach Carter," "Basic," "S.W.A.T.," "Rules of Engagement," "Unbreakable," "Shaft," "Jackie Brown," "The Negotiator," "Pulp Fiction," and "A Time to Kill," just to name a few. And we can't forget "Snakes on a Plane," more famous for its internet sensationalism than it's quality, but, still, whew! And according to his website, Jackson has TEN movies coming out in the next EIGHTEEN MONTHS! Click HERE
I couldn't choose from among my favorite film clips, so here's Mr. Jackson being a version of himself on Ricky Gervais' show "Extras:"
Have you shipped out all your Christmas cards and packages? The Postal Service says today is absolutely the last day to send mail if you want it to arrive at its destination by Christmas, but, be warned, you will pay out the nose to guarantee that! Yesterday was the busiest day of the year for post offices. They handled about 800,000 pieces of mail, 40% more than the average daily volume.
Here's the U.S.P.S.'s page that allows you to calculate postage (I guess so you can have your hissy fit at home before you arrive at the post office): Click HERE
Did you ever see a rock star before he or she became famous? John told us the story of meeting Billy Joel (who had to hitchhike to the radio station, by the way, because he was too poor to pay for transportation!). ZZ Top's Dusty Hill remembers the first inauspicious time his group played, at a Knight's of Columbus hall, no less, and Hill says, quote, "I had to borrow a bass guitar. I didn't have one at the time. I drove from Houston down to Beaumont, the Knights of Columbus hall. There was a pool room they let us use for a dressing room, with a little bumper pool table. We'd rehearsed a few times and, I mean, we didn't have a lot of material, but back in the days when there were a couple of songs, they went 15, 20 minutes, ya know. I remember the whole evening. It was fun. Nobody knew who we were."
Things are just a little different for them now:

Former Cardinal Rick Ankiel is headed to the Washington Nationals, agreeing to a one-year deal, pending a physical. Last season, Ankiel overcame a hamstring injury and split his time with the Royals and the Braves, batting a combined .232 with six home runs and 24 RBI, and he did get that big well-timed hit to help Atlanta in post-season against the Giants. Do you remember when Ankiel was runner up for the NL Rookie of the Year in 2000 as a lefty pitcher? Those are much better memories than his 2000 post-season meltdown.
Here's the scoop on his move to the Nats: Click HERE
Are you wishing for baseball season? I just loved these spots by some of our favorite Cardinals. Boy, that Fredbird can act:
There are still a few weeks before you get to see it for yourself, but sources close to "American Idol" say Steven Tyler is the new Paula Abdul. One insider told the "National Enquirer" quote "He's hilarious! Viewers are in for a real treat when they watch the auditions in January. Steven's incredibly comical without realizing it. Who'd have thought it was possible to out-ditz Paula?!"
As for Tyler himself and his opinions about his new gig, he says, quote, "Some [Idol hopefuls] are 14 and feel entitled and can't sing at all. And some are 14 and blew me away. I could not believe what I heard. And keep in mind, you're looking at a guy that never watched the show." Click HERE
Steven either REALLY loves Christmas or he had a big balloon mortgage payment due when he performed this. You be the judge:
Did you watch the Bears beat the Vikings 40 - 14 during a freezing "Monday Night Football" last night? The Bears clinched the NFC North in a contest that saw Brett Favre make a surprise start, only to be knocked out of the game with a concussion. The Metrodome is also still out of commission because of last week's roof collapse, so last night's game was played OUTSIDE at the U. of Minnesota's TCF Bank Stadium, the Vikings' first outdoor home game in 20 years. El Monstero performs at the Pageant through December 26th. If you're a Floyd fan, you don't want to miss this! But shows are selling out quickly, so get those tix today at Ticketmaster or The Pageant Box office. Click HERE
