RANDOM RICK-NESS
Thanks to listener Mark for sending these. I can’t attest to their effectiveness ‘cause I just got this, but given our winter mix of snow ‘n’ sleet on the horizon, they seem worth a try.
Keep your headlights clear with car wax! Just wipe ordinary car wax on your headlights. It contains special water repellents - lasts 6 weeks.
Wipe windshield wipers with a cloth saturated with rubbing alcohol or ammonia. This one trick can make badly streaking & squeaking wipers change to near perfect silence & clarity.
Ice-proof your windows with vinegar! Fill a spray bottle with three parts vinegar to one part water & spritz it on all your windows at night. In the morning, they'll be clear of icy mess.
Prevent car doors from freezing shut with cooking spray! Spritz cooking oil on the rubber seals around car doors & rub it in with a paper towel.
Fog-proof your windshield with shaving cream! Spray some shaving cream on the inside of your windshield & wipe if off with paper towels. Shaving cream has many of the same ingredients found in commercial defoggers.
De-ice your lock in seconds with hand sanitizer! Just put some hand sanitizer gel on the key & the lock & the problems solved!
MORNING MUSINGS

Rick spends a lot of time thinking about obscenity...not BEING obscene, mind you, just thinking about it. He discovered the most obscene city in America (and no, it's not us this time). It's Ashburn, Virginia. Business Insider Magazine took George Carlin's seven dirty words (you know 'em), put them into Google Trends, then looked for the city that loved these words the most. Tampa, Florida came in second to Ashburn. What is it with Virginians? Last year's winner, Herndon, Virginia, was third this year. Tampa, Florida was fourth, and Irvine, California was fifth. Although current lead vocalist Arnel Pineda is a dead ringer vocally for former frontman Steve Perry, many Journey fans long for a reunion between Perry and core members Neal Schon, Ross Valory and Jonathan Cain. Cain was asked if the band ever thought of asking Perry to rejoin the band, and his answer was, quote "No, because he really sealed the deal back in '98 and said, 'Don't expect anything from me, y'know, we're done. You and I are done.' So I know that he keeps his word, and I would not make that call, because his legacy is already there." ...Um, so I guess that's a "no."
In spite of these strong words from Cain, Steve Perry is reportedly still having to shoot down rumors that he was asked to rejoin the band. Perry's rep said, quote, "It's just not true. Steve is enjoying his retirement." And the band is still recording an album with Pineda.
Here's Pineda and Journey doing "Don't Stop Believin'." Eerie, huh?
Last year, the studio recording of "Don't Stop Believin'" made history by becoming the only song to have been downloaded two million times - the most downloaded song in iTunes history. Click HERE
Prized free-agent pitcher Cliff Lee is apparently headed back to Philly, after agreeing to a five-year deal. The Rangers and Yankees had been considered front-runners for the lefty's affections, but sometimes more money isn't everything, I guess. Lee was acquired by the Phillies in July of 2009 and helped pitch them to the World Series, but he was traded that offseason to the Mariners who then dealt him to the Rangers this past July, where Lee helped Texas to its first-ever World Series. The Giants beat the Favre-less Vikings 21 - 3 last night in Detroit (cuz Minnesota's stadium had a little problem...you may have heard). Brett Favre sat out the game and so ended his NFL-record streak of 297 consecutive starts. Brett is still suffering from a shoulder injury he got more than a week ago. Favre's playing streak started waaaaayyyy back in 1992, when he replaced the injured Don Majkowski for the Packers. Favre says he's retiring after this season...he really means it this time. After Sunday's sad game in N'Awlins, the Rams say they've put it behind them and are focused on this week's home matchup against the Chiefs. Kansas City is coming off a loss, too, but leads the AFC West at 8 and 5. The Chiefs still don't know if they'll have QB Matt Cassel available this Sunday. He missed the Chargers game after an emergency appendectomy last week. Rick, ever the thoughtful guy, thinks Cassel should take another week of rest, just to make sure he's completely okay. Rick put up his Christmas tree yesterday and, to get himself in the holiday spirit, he played Bob Dylan's Christmas album. Have you heard this thing? It's, um, well, you'll just have to listen:
Here's what Dylan said about the album:
As part of his Christmas holidays, Rick also enjoys the "Talladega Nights" scene with the prayer to Baby Jesus.
*Warning. This clip is Will Ferrell at his weird, naughty best, full of foul language and uncomfortable situations, but it's also funny as all get out.
Will Ferrell and "Talladega Nights" pal John C. Reilly have teamed up for yet another odd idea: recreating David Bowie and Bing Crosby's video for "Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy." In the clip, Ferrell plays Bowie, complete with a British accent and lovely late 70s wig. And Reilly sports a baby-blue cardigan and a receding hairline. The real Bowie and Bing filmed their duet in 1977 as a segment for Crosby's holiday TV special, "Bing Crosby's Merrie Olde Christmas."
Here's the original with Bowie and Bing:
And here's the Ferrell/Reilly version.
*Warning. There are two bleeped words at the end.
The Christmas story gets a Fab Four makeover from the director of contemporary worship ministries of Kirkwood United Methodist Church. This Thursday and Friday at 7pm at St. Louis Community College at Meramec Theatre (11333 Big Bend) you can see the familiar story of the nativity as told entirely through the music of the Beatles.
