RANDOM RICK-NESS
I had mentioned on the air about watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade and noticing the billboard that was displayed in every camera shot that showed the reviewing stand in front of Macy’s department store. This is where the performers would stop and Matt Lauer and Meridith Viera and Al Roker would read the holiday script about the performers. While viewing the floats, viewers could not escape the site of the billboard in the background that showed a slim blonde in her push-up bra and scanty panties. It was a billboard for the Victoria’s Secret t-v show. I questioned the appropriateness of mixing signals i.e. balloons featuring children’s beloved characters or a high school band from Des Moines with ‘all of the folks back home’ watching with the obvious eye candy on display. So anyway the Victoria’s Secret ‘”fashion show’ aired last night on CBS and again I got that ‘mixed message’ thought because prior to the bra and panty extravaganza, CBS aired Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. I’m not trying to be the “moral cop”, but I am sympathizing with the tough job parents have these days…that’s the point of this post. On the lighter side, Craig Ferguson addressed the CBS programming in a joke he told last night: “CBS aired Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer tonight and then the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Rudolph and Victoria’s Secret fashion models are very different, of course. One’s a skinny little animal with a red nose who loves the white snow. And the other one’s Rudolph”.
MORNING MUSINGS
Morning Show Musings for Wednesday, December 1st
Happy December!!
It's no secret that Johnny Depp based his Captain Jack Sparrow character from Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" films on the Rolling Stones' Keith Richards. And Richards even was invited to play Sparrow's dad later in the franchise's third ha-hugely successful incarnation.
But it might surprise you to know that Disney execs were terrified when they first saw his characterization. In the new issue of "Vanity Fair" magazine, Depp says, quote, "I think it was Michael Eisner, the head of Disney at the time, who was quoted as saying 'He's ruining the movie.' It was that extreme...memos and paper trails and madness and phone calls and agents and lawyers and people screaming, and me getting phone calls direct from, you know, upper-echelon Disney-ites, going 'What's wrong with him?' Is he, you know, like some kind of weird simpleton? Is he drunk? By the way, is he gay?" And in true Johnny Depp fashion, he just stoked the fire, saying, quote, "I actually told this woman who was the Disney-ite that called me about all that stuff and asked me the questions, I said to her, 'But didn't you know that all my characters are gay?' which really made her nervous."
They didn't need to be nervous. The "Pirates" films have grossed more than a billion bucks.

Every dad has a tough time when his little girl brings a beau home to meet him, and that's no different if you're a rock superstar. Phil Collins tells "Marie Claire" magazine that his little girl, Lily Collins (who played Sandra Bullock's daughter in the hit film "The Blind Side" - she was wonderful by the way!) has brought home a werewolf. Okay, not a REAL werewolf - this one has MUCH better teeth...and abs... Lily visited the set of "Twilight" and fell for Taylor Lautner, they've been working together on a thriller called "Abduction," and recently she brought him home to meet dad. A so-called source says Phil was "impressed" with the 18-year-old young man. (For the record, Lily is three years older than Taylor.) Click HERE

And, once Daddy meets your beau, he then has to deal with your engagement, your marriage and then your kids! Sir Paul McCartney has become a GRANDFATHER for the 7th time!! Stella McCartney gave birth to an eight-pound baby girl named Reiley on November 23rd. How wild would it be to have a knight AND a Beatle as your granddad?! Click HERE to read more.
McCartney does a one-night-only show at Harlem's Apollo Theatre December 13th, and he's the musical guest on SNL on December 11th.
It's pronounced terr-EE-oh... The Cardinals have traded righty reliever (and sometime 6th starting pitcher) Blake Hawksworth to the Dodgers for middle infielder 31-year-old Ryan Theriot, and John Mozeliak says that, as of now, Theriot IS our shortstop. If you were Brendan Ryan, how would you be feeling right about now? Click HERE
It's good to be the king. It's even better to be Ryan Seacrest. The "American Idol" host, syndicated radio star and TV producer signed a three-year, $60 million contract with Clear Channel Communications that has him developing new syndicated radio content for good ole over-the-air-radio and for digital media. He'll also explore the creation of a record label and a concert series. And, of course, he'll keep hosting his KIIS-FM radio show, "On Air with Ryan Seacrest," as well as the American Top 40 chart countdown.
Rick is wondering what Bryan Dunkelman is feeling right now. He was the dude who originally co-hosted "American Idol" with Seacrest. And now he's, um, well, he's...I hope he saved his money.
HERE is what "TV Guide" says Dunkelman has been up to:
Rick says drummer Pete Best is the Bryan Dunkelman of his era, but Pete can still drum. And he's getting a shot at immortality in his native Liverpool. The city is considering naming a street after him, citing his "special contribution" to the city's musical legacy. These days, the 69-year-old tours with his own band. (You might remember his old band, the Beatles, replaced him with Ringo in 1962.) Click HERE
Congrats to N.O. Saints Drew Brees!!! He's the 2010 "Sports Illustrated" Sportsman of the Year, an annual honor given to an athlete who excels on and off the field. Brees certainly earned it. He led the Saints to their first-ever Super Bowl title last season, he was named the Super Bowl 44 MVP and he established the Brees Dream Foundation to support cancer research and the education of children in need. The foundation has also been active in helping New Orleans rebound from Hurricane Katrina. Brees will be recognized at a ceremony in New York with past winners, including Bill Russell, Curt Schilling and Joe Montana. But John's worried. That "Sports Illustrated" cover seems to be a jinx... I LOVED the "60 Minutes" interview with Drew Brees. HERE is the QB in a throwing challenge:
Tiger is Tweeting. But he won't talk about his divorce or the sex scandal that caused it. What WILL he talk about? Well, his favorite flick is "Caddyshack," but we knew that already. His favorite sports teams are the Raiders, the Lakers and the Dodgers, but he's a California boy, so that's not much of a surprise. If he could play a sport other than golf, it would be basketball. He can't grow facial hair. And what he wants for Christmas is for his Alma Mater, Stanford, to beat Texas Christian in the national championship game. Thank goodness for Twitter. I couldn't survive without this info!!!!

This day in history, the game of Monopoly debuted, back in 1935. Rick has a theory that Monopoly is like the "Three Stooges." Dudes just like it better than the lasses. He bases this on the fact that whenever he tries to get the family together to play, the men jump at the chance and the women feign headaches. I suggested that perhaps the women just don't want to play with the men. I mean, how many times did YOU have a Monopoly board thrown to the ground by a boy sibling when you were young? I still get the shivers when I think about it...
Rick shared some helpful trivia: the space you have the greatest statistical chance of landing on is Illinois Avenue, then B & O Railroad, then Free Parking, Tennessee Avenue and New York Avenue.
HERE is the game's official site:
