RANDOM RICK-NESS

This past weekend I went to see the stage version of The Wizard of Oz at the Fox Theatre. The play seemed amateurish. Like a high school production. Although the woman who played the Wicked Witch of the West performed well, her green make-up did not entirely cover her neck so when she turned to the side you could see where the ‘green’ skin ended near the back of her hairline. It was little things like that which contributed to my ‘amateurish’ assessment. I watched the movie on TBS the following night and it restored the ‘magic’ for me. So thanks Ted Turner for unknowingly erasing the bad memory of the stage play! One thought I had though as I watched Judy Garland. It looked to me like “Dorothy” had cankles. I couldn’t help noticing every time they did a close-up of her legs to show off the ruby slippers.

MORNING MUSINGS

Morning Show Musings for Tuesday, November 30th

Are you looking forward to a classic rock artist rocking the Super Bowl halftime show? Well, don't. The Black Eyed Peas will headline the show February 6th in Dallas. Rick said that after Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake and their little wardrobe malfunction seven years ago, the choices have been older, basically safer artists (like The Who, Springsteen, Tom Petty, the Stones and Paul McCartney...although Prince was in there, too). But Rick's looking forward to the family-friendly singin' about lovely lady lumps this year. Click HERE

But Fergie has teamed up with classic rock artists before: Click HERE

Wednesday, December 8th will be the 30th anniversary of the death of John Lennon, and CNN will premiere a new documentary this Saturday, December 4th at 7pm central, titled "Losing Lennon: Countdown to Murder." The doc will look at Lennon's last days and includes several exclusives, such as previously unaired audio interviews with the killer (who shall remain nameless, cuz we don't want to give him attention, if we can help it), clips of the killer's wife, interviews with the rescue and medical team that tried to save John Lennon and new interviews with Julian Lennon and Yoko Ono.

Click HERE for some of the footage:

Jimi Hendrix fans are raving about the new multimedia set "West Coast Seattle Boy: The Jimi Hendrix Anthology," which features more than four hours of rare and previously unreleased Hendrix music. Jimi's stepsister, Janie Hendrix says Jimi actually coined the phrase "West Coast Seattle Boy" to describe his early life: "Jimmy wrote that down and that was his term for himself. It's almost like 'West Coast Seattle Boy' becomes 'Voodoo Child.' And so what happens between the time that he's just a 'West Coast Seattle Boy' and then playing with Little Richard and the Isleys and moving on through the years from a sideman to a frontman."

Rick wants to give you some holiday trivia with which you can impress and amaze your friends and family: The song "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" from the classic "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" TV special was actually sung by Tony the Tiger. No, really. Thurl Ravenscroft was the talented singer and voice-over actor's name, and he worked a ton!

Find out more about him HERE:

The original animated "Grinch" airs tonight at 7pm central on ABC: Click HERE

The Jim Carrey live-action version, with local lass Taylor Momsen, airs tomorrow night on ABC Family.

If you remember Taylor as that cute little Cindy Loo Who, well, Taylor is, um growing up: Click HERE

Oh Willie! Mr. Nelson was busted last week at a border patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, Texas for holding 6 ounces of marijuana. In 2006, Willie got caught holding 1.5 pounds of pot plus a bag of shrooms, but, that was Louisiana, so he got a slap on the wrist. He got caught in Texas this time and could face two years in prison.

Fans love him, though. They've set up a Facebook page, hoping to get him a Nobel Peace Prize! It's not so ridiculous when you think about all his good works: Farm Aid, The Willie Nelson Peace Research Institute, The Willie Nelson Biofuel Company and his mission to stop the slaughter of horses. (He's a busy dude; and I thought pot made you slothful.) Click HERE

If you're into this sort of thing, HERE is his mug shot:

We're used to seeing athletes praise God for successes during games. But here's a new one: a player BLAMING God for a loss. Yesterday the Bills lost to the Steelers 19 - 16 in OT, after the Steelers made a game-winning field goal. But the Bills SHOULD have won the game on the previous series, except that Buffalo wide receiver Steve Johnson dropped a pass in the end zone. In the post-game conference, Johnson was very humble and blamed himself for the loss, but later on Twitter he allegedly Tweeted to God, quote, "I PRAISE YOU 24/7!!!!!! AND THIS HOW YOU DO ME!!!!! YOU EXPECT ME TO LEARN FROM THIS??? HOW???!!! NEVER FORGET THIS!! EVER!!! THX THO..." (His old English teachers are cringing...) Yesterday he Tweeted, quote "I learned A lot Within 24hrs. Saw Both Sides.(Ups&Dwns) I AM HAPPY & THANKFUL 4 YESTERDAY! w/o Sunday iWldnt have grew closer w/The Lord!!"

Then he added, quote "And No I Did Not Blame God People! Seriously??!? Cmon! I Simply Cried Out And Asked Why? Jus Like yal did wen sumthin went wrong n ur life!" (Okay, now his old English teachers are changing their professions and their names...) If you'd like to follow the crazy on your own, HERE is Steve Johnson's Twitter address:
