A long time ago someone referred to the brain as an organic computer. This lead me to thinking of superimposing basic computer concepts over the everyday operation of the human brain. This can be a way for some people (not everyone) to learn how to get better performance out of their minds and by extension, better lives. It is my exprience that one of the most important things that anyone can do is to pay attention to your thoughts and to learn to guide your thinking towards what it is that you want. This will be a frequent concept in Incommunicado and I will introduce it in many different ways.
Before I get into the specifics of the OSB, I must first point out that you control your thoughts. A great many people think by default. There are many who seem to believe that their minds run independently and they are bound to go wherever it leads. I hope to help you understand that you are the master of your thoughts and with a little practice, you can change your habits of thought and by doing so, change your life!
In the early days, many computers used only an operating system called DOS. (Digital Operating System) Many of you have seen the screen of nothing but letters and numbers and back slashes and semi-colons. This was pretty boring and hard to understand. There were no graphics whatsoever. A couple of guys named Steve, and then another guy named Bill devised new systems which sat on top of DOS and got it to make pictures of things (Icons). They came up with a thing called a mouse which allowed you to "click" on an icon and it would take you to that program rather than having to type a bewildering array of letters and numbers and back slashes. It was this development that made the personal computer possible. Bill called his system "Windows". It has evolved into many different versions with names like "Office" or "Vista". In a manner of speaking, I am proposing a "Windows" for the mind.
I will be giving you a whole series of mental "apps" that you can include in your OSB. Use or ignore them as you like. This will work very well for some and others simply won't warm to the idea of mixing computer terminology and their human brains. As with just about everything I propose, I throw it out there and if seems like something that might work for you, give it a try. However, I do believe that some of you will be very intrigued by this and may find that it opens a whole new understanding of your mind and thoughts.
I will give you individual numbered blogs with different OSB applications. To better illustrate, I will give you the first one now. Everything in the OSB (except results!) is virtual. All operations are done mentally. Other than your brain, there are no physical components. Ready?
Your wife reminds you that you have to pick up the kids at school tomorrow. Now, see the sentence in your mind..."Pick up the kids at school tomorrow." Now highlight it. Run your mental cursor over it and highlight it. Turn it yellow or blue, or make the mental type bigger or underline it. You can use any computer technique that makes the simple sentence more memorable. Then, the last step is, hit your mental "save" command. Another way to go about it is picture the calender system that you use on your computer. Enter the task and mentally set it up that it will pop up, bing, at the right time. That is what I mean by an Operating System for the Brain. You have taken a simple task and using methods that you use everyday on your computers you can greatly improve the chance that you will remember to pick up the kids. The more you use these techniques the more reliable they become.
