The producers of Fox's American Idol desperately want Elton John to replace Simon Cowell upon his exist at the end of this season. According to monstersandcritics.com, back in January, Elton turned down a substantial offer from the show to act as judge, but has recently met up with producers again in New York where he was offered Cowell's $32.6 million salary per season.

An unnamed producer said: "Everyone loves Elton. As well as being outspoken, he has an air of gravitas as an icon of the music industry. He's British, too. Having Elton on board would be a guaranteed ratings blockbuster all over the world."
