MOVIE OPENING: 'TYLER PERRY'S WHY DID I GET MARRIED TOO?'

4/2/2010

Opening today (April 2nd) is the new comedy from Tyler Perry, Why Did I Get Married Too?, starring Perry, Janet Jackson, Jill Scott and Malik Yoba. The film follows four couples who go on vacation to the Bahamas for their annual reunion, but when one's ex-husband arrives wanting to break up her marriage and win her back, the other couples realize their relationships aren't perfect either.

Why Did I Get Married Too? is rated PG-13 and has a running time of 2 hours.

Janet Jackson on her character: ''Patricia Agnew, she is a psychologist, very sweet, very open to giving her friends advice, always there for them. But, a little difficult at looking at her own issues.''

Janet Jackson on the film: ''I guess in a broad kind of way, it's about, obviously relationships. It's about love. It's about pain. It's about trust. It's about healing. It's about communication. It's about moving on. It's about not healing. It's so many things that you just have to see it. It's about friendship.''

Jill Scott on the story: ''There are four couples that are going through different situations and issues within their marriages. They love each other, they battle, they succeed in certain situations, um, and the stakes are very high because it seems to me that most people don't take marriage very seriously anymore. But, um, it's very serious.''

Tyler Perry on his character: ''What's great about reprising Terry is, Terry to me is the closest to me that I've ever played. He is the closest because I'm certainly not a 68-year-old woman or a 75-year-old man, but Terry's the closest to who I am so it was really cool playing him and having a moment to just be normal. You know, not have to talk very high, not have to wear a fat suit; but just be a normal guy that is very close to who I am.''

Tyler Perry on the film: ''I wanted to reprise these couples because they all had such great storylines and I felt like there was so much more that I wanted to tell for each and every one of them. So, what I've done in the past is just tell stories about relationships and I think Why Did I Get Married Too explores that further.''
