Guttenberg! The Musical!
Temporary Theatre Company: March 11 - 28, 2010

What fun I had watching two aspiring playwrites (and idiots) hope they can make it big on Broadway if they can just write a great musical.

So they pick a great historical figure as their subject: Johann Guttenberg, the inventor of the printing press.

Unfortunately, they're not into research, so they just make stuff up. What ensues is like a live-action Simpsons: funny, irreverent, so wrong sometimes you feel guilty laughing.

Its stars, so familiar to St. Louis audiences, Steve Isom and Ben Nordstrom, work their little tails off playing all of the parts, and they seem to be enjoying themselves as much as I enjoyed watching them.

That's what makes the show work, seeing two very talented guys using every weapon in their acting arsenals and loving every minute of it.

I've heard rumors the show might be remounted at some point; if you're willing to forego political correctness for an evening, you'll love it!!
