How Can I Negotiate For More Vacation Time?
We'd all like more money, but wouldn't more time off be great too! It all starts with the interview.
If, during your compensation package negotiation, you can get your employer to agree that you're worth more than the salary you're being offered (but the employer doesn't have it in their budget to pay you more), one of the things you could negotiate for is additional paid vacation days. You can also negotiate to receive additional paid vacation days as a reward for performance or for reaching pre-determined objectives or goals while on the job.
In addition to offering paid vacation days, some companies also provide employees with an annual vacation allowance, meaning that they'll actually pay for your vacation up to a pre-determined limit. This is a fast-growing trend, and something that employers are using to boost employee morale and dedication.
